Is therapy right for me?

Initiating therapy is a personal decision. While there are a variety of reasons why a person chooses to engage in therapy, the underlying dynamics typically involve some distress or discomfort in one’s functioning or ability to cope with life circumstances.  An initial consultation offers the opportunity to determine whether therapy at Salus is an appropriate option at this time.

What does a “typical” therapy session consist of?

Generally, sessions last 50 minutes and occur on a weekly basis. During a session we will talk about what is most important to you. Your therapist will work with the material you bring forth as the most important and relevant at the time of session, as it relates to your identified treatment goals.

What can I expect from therapy?

While it may not always be the most comfortable process, our work together will focus on identifying and proactively changing ineffective patterns of thought, behavior, and relationship. Many people find that therapy can be a deeply personal and rewarding experience. Often times the result of therapy ultimately involves personal growth and positive change.

Is therapy confidential?

Generally speaking, there is a legal mandate for your psychologist to keep therapeutic communication confidential. There are a few exceptions to this requirement which your therapist will review with you at the beginning of your treatment.

Do you accept insurance?

Do you charge for an initial consultation?
